Results Only an Expert Can Achieve

When it comes to plastic surgery, especially facial procedures, the success of your results can depend on many things, including your surgeon and the level of attention, care, and dedication they have to each client. This cannot be understated when it comes to rhinoplasty. Dr. Kevin Sadati is an expertly trained and highly skilled Newport Beach facial plastic surgeon with a keen eye for beauty and a background as a painter and sculptor. His artistry allows him to approach procedures with precision, delicacy, and a creative eye for aesthetics.

Rhinoplasty for Men

A high percentage of men are seeking nose surgery to improve their facial appearance than ever before. To avoid complications and dealing with unhappy patients, our Newport Beach male rhinoplasty is specifically tailored to contribute to a more masculine appearance. Over-reduction in men must be avoided. The male nose must remain strong and prominent.

The thick skin on the tip does not usually allow the creation of a well-defined, multifaceted tip. The osteotomy is the preferred tool for moderate to large hump reduction.

The osteotomy requires good control of the depth and a strong grip to avoid rotation. It creates a precise reduction and preserves precious bony and cartilaginous material that may be used later.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular facial procedures in the United States, although in the past, most rhinoplasty patients were women. Now, men and women comprise equal numbers of patients in our practice. However, men often have more pronounced features and a more defined facial profile. This can impact how a male rhinoplasty should be approached for the results to look natural and complement the rest of the face.

The Male Rhinoplasty Procedure

Dr. Sadati believes every plastic surgery procedure should be unique to the patient's needs and facial structure. He will design a treatment plan with you to help achieve the desired results naturally and favorably.

During your consultation for male rhinoplasty, Newport Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Kevin Sadati can discuss what changes can be made and the techniques used during your procedure. You'll also be able to discuss the recovery process and any questions or concerns. On the day of surgery, you will be placed under general anesthesia before you begin making incisions inside the nose.

The exact placement of the incisions and how your rhinoplasty is performed will vary based on what you have corrected or enhanced. Dr. Sadati may recommend open or closed surgery. The former requires pulling back the flap to help rearrange tissue and muscles. A closed surgery, on the other hand, can be used when less correction is needed and may reduce the risk of scarring. In any case, Dr. Sadati will work to make incisions along the natural folds of your skin to minimize visibility.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Male Rhinoplasty?

The first step any patient must take before undergoing any cosmetic correction, enhancement surgery, or treatment is to sit down with an experienced physician for a consultation. The initial consultation will help determine whether you are an eligible candidate and whether a procedure like rhinoplasty is right for you.

Sometimes, patients may not know the best approach for their unique features, so that you can discuss any concerns and your aesthetic goals. This can include anything from reversing signs of aging to achieving a more defined or chiseled facial profile. Patients may find that some of their features distract from their overall beauty and appearance. In particular, the nose is one of the focal parts of the face, and can draw attention during first impressions and whenever someone is looking at you. If your nose protrudes, is crooked, or is otherwise misshapen, it may affect how you feel about your appearance. Ideal candidates include patients in good general health who understand the risks and post-care responsibilities they will have, and have a realistic understanding of the procedure.

Different Approaches to Male Rhinoplasty

  • The closed rhinoplasty approach, which has been described, is worthwhile. Even in the case of a large hump, the mucosa located beneath the dorsum will retract rapidly and there is no need to resect it.
  • Transection and partial resection of the mucosa along the septum and upper lateral cartilage, in addition to causing perioperative bleeding, can be responsible for scar tissue formation and contribute to the formation of a supratip deformity.
  • On the other hand, the open rhinoplasty approach gives immediate access to the septum and keeps a closed pocket in which the dorsal grafts and spreader grafts will be isolated.
  • Avoiding opening the nasal cavities is especially useful when performing a bony dorsal graft. The submucosal approach is even easier to accomplish when performing an open rhinoplasty than through the classical inner incision. One continues on the midline to find the septum and dissects the mucosal domes on each side.

Bone Grafts

Bone grafts are the best solution for a severely depressed dorsum due to post-traumatic, congenital, or post-surgical causes. Bony rib grafts can be passed through a hole in the glabella region. The rib is split open on one side, straightened, and fashioned in the shape of a boat. Cranial grafts or synthetic material can be used to avoid the discomfort of rib removal for the patient.

A rib graft, including bone and cartilage, is still useful in cases of major reconstruction without tip projection. The cartilage is carved to support the tip and columella. Cartilage is less prone to resorption than bone, and it can preserve some natural mobility of the tip. The junction between the bony and cartilaginous part of the graft should be located about 2.5 cm above the tip, as in a normal nose.

How Soon Will I See Results?

After a male rhinoplasty, a splint must be worn for the first week. It's common to experience tenderness and inflammation around the area, but you will see improvements within 10 to 14 days after surgery. Patients should avoid high-intensity activities like contact athletics or heavy exercises for at least six weeks.

A rhinoplasty procedure is intended to be a long-lasting treatment that can correct or enhance the structure and overall shape, size, and appearance of the nose and its features.

Barring any physical changes like unavoidable aging shifts or fluctuations in weight, your results will last many years, and most patients don't need additional surgery.

After rhinoplasty, male patients can expect to start seeing results as swelling and inflammation dissipate throughout the first two weeks. Minor swelling may still be present from there, but the visibility will greatly reduce. Typically, it can take up to a year to see the final results, so patients should be patient as they settle into their new facial structure.
