Platelet-rich plasma, more commonly known as PRP, is a popular procedure used in many fields. Restorative care, physical therapy, scar treatment, cosmetic enhancement, and more can all find uses for platelet injections and applications.

While PRP is coined as the original version of blood concentrate therapy, you may be familiar (or will soon start hearing about) a newer, sort of “big-sister” version. Platelet-rich fibrin (or PRF) has recently emerged in new treatments, oftentimes showing more advanced or effective results in patients.

As one of the most natural options for cosmetic enhancement, Dr. Sadati uses PRF and our Newport Beach PRP injections as an option for anyone who wants to avoid more invasive options or is at a higher risk of complications or allergy. Additionally, if you have tried other facial rejuvenation options that may not have worked for you, PRP or PRF may be an alternative that can deliver noticeably younger results.

WHY CONSIDER PLATELET THERAPY?

Platelets are becoming increasingly popular as a non-surgical cosmetic enhancement treatment because of their incredible ability to deliver rejuvenating results without using foreign materials or plastic surgery.

It’s an excellent choice for patients who want to use ingredients that are completely natural and won’t have any risk of allergy. Platelets are harvested from your own blood and harness the natural healing properties found in the blood concentrate.

Patients who want to avoid undergoing procedures like dermal injections or a facelift often consider PRP injections or PRF to help them achieve a fresher and more youthful result. It is an incredibly versatile treatment option for patients who want to improve some common side effects of aging and skin conditions.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRF/PRP?

PRP and PRF offer many incredible benefits to patients and can be customized to suit various different needs. It is commonly combined with other treatments to help maximize your results and boost the natural production of collagen, elastin, and other rejuvenating nutrients within the body.

Plus, there is no downtime and the procedures can be minimally painful. Patients who want to prevent or treat hair loss, promote healthy and natural hair growth, or replenish lost volume anywhere on the face and body may find that PRP or PRF treatments sound like a good choice. It can also be used as a preventive measure to help fight off signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging skin, and sunken areas.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRF AND PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is the original treatment that has been offered for years in the medical and cosmetic community. It has shown success in treatments ranging from skin enhancement, hair restoration, dental treatments, recovery therapy, and tissue damage (and currently still is the only successful platelet-based product that can treat it).

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), on the other hand, is especially effective in musculoskeletal care, as well as anesthetic medicine. They both require blood to be taken from the patient and spun through a centrifuge to separate the blood into layers. Traditionally, PRP is spun at higher speeds, which allows the heavier cells, like white blood cells and stem cells to collect at the bottom of the test tube while the lighter platelets and plasma settle at the top. These were then collected and injected into the target area.

However, recent information has shown that using plasma with a higher concentration of platelets and some of the white blood cells and stem cells may be more effective in rejuvenating treatments, like skin correction and hair restoration. For PRF, the centrifuge is spun at a much slower speed, so the layers of blood do not separate as much. This lets some of the other nutrients to blend into the layer that is collected for treatment. The lower spin speed may also cause less trauma to the individual blood cells, which preserves them for the final injection.

PRF - PLATELET-RICH FIBRIN

PRF is a concentration of your own cells including platelets and white blood cells. These are two important producers of growth factors which are key for skin rejuvenation purposes.

Our PRF is also free of additives and chemicals which makes it 100% natural. The slow and short centrifugation which is used with our PRF produces a concentrate richer in these important cells. The absence of an anticoagulant allows a fibrin scaffold to form which in turn allows growth factors to be released up to 10 days from application for continued benefit.

The process includes drawing your blood, spinning the tubes to separate the red blood cells, and then utilizing the PRF in combination with microneedling and lasers, for increased growth factor release and enhanced healing. PRF may also be injected! PRF is a great enhancement to any treatment for maximum results. Common concerns targeted with PRF include wrinkles and fine lines, acne scarring, hair restoration, brown spots, volume loss and dark circles.
